18% of Physicians Have Not Obtained NPI According to CIGNA Government Services

CIGNA Government Services has reported that 18% of North Carolina physicians have not yet obtained their National Provider Identifiers, despite dire consequences coming soon.
All Medicare claims received after March 1, 2008 without an NPI will be rejected or returned. Resubmission of a new claim will then be required. After March 23, only an NPI may be sent. Therefore, claims filed in any other way will be rejected.
