Proposed Rule Imminent for Medical Board Physician Profiling System
November 12th, 2007
The North Carolina Medical Board is poised to propose rules that will spell out how medical malpractice payment information will be portrayed on its website.
This Board was mandated by the General Assembly to develop a profiling system for its licensees. Rather than have the General Assembly dictate the detail of the profiling system, the NCMS and NCMB both pushed for Board to develop rules.
The rulemaking process provides an important opportunity for all physicians and physician assistants to express their views. As preliminary step, the NCMB is meeting with a wide variety of stakeholders, including the NCMS. The NCMS has expressed some concerns to the Board, which you can view on the NCMS website.
The Board will continue to work through the issues with the NCMB and members informed about how to comment on the proposed rule. They expect a proposal from the NCMB sometime after its November, 2007 meeting.
