CMS Orders Medicare ‘Re-Validation’ of Top 100 Billers

October 17th, 2007

CMS has issued a new directive that will cause hundreds of new applications to be filed within the next 60 days at CIGNA Government Services, and create a backlog for new physicians seeking to enroll in the Medicare program.

The directive requires providers with high claims volume to resubmit applications on each location and Medicare assigned numbers, and states that providers or suppliers who fail to submit the CMS-855 form and supporting documentation within 60 days will face “revocation of enrollment and billing privileges in the Medicare program.”

Letters were mailed the week of October 8th. If your practice has not received such a letter, you are not required to revalidate your information. Questions can be submitted to the Provider Enrollment Department or by contacting CIGNA Government Services at 1-866-520-4007.
