Pagers for Patients in NC Pediatric Waiting Room

August 6th, 2007

Ballantyne Pediatric Associates patients and their parents can stray from the waiting room without worrying about missing their turn. Because the practice now gives all visitors pagers called “coasters” — similar to the ones given out at restaurants — upon arrival. The coasters light up and buzz when the patient’s turn comes up. So parents are free to roam, if they prefer to wait outside, for example, or need to dart back to the car to give their child a quick diaper change. The system also promotes privacy, since patients’ names aren’t called out.

Ballantyne Pediatrics is one of the first practices in Presbyterian Healthcare to use this system, according to spokeswoman Marcia Meredith.
